- Membership is the first step in your Quilt Guild journey – becoming a part of this group offers the opportunity to learn from others and to share your knowledge as well. We all have areas of expertise and experience – no two quilters have taken the same path to come to this point – some have quilted for many years and some are brand new, but we all have something to offer.
- Try new things – the Guild offers quick tutorials (at evening meetings), opportunities to talk to and learn from other members; classes and courses taught by members or others and many other ways to try something new. Maybe you are looking for a new way to bind your quilts, or a simpler way to piece a complicated block. Have you tried paper piecing, chain piecing or hand piecing? Someone in the Guild will be glad to work through a new or forgotten concept with you.
- Consider offering your expertise – either as a member of a committee or on a particular project. You know how to do lots of things, some of them are things we need done.
- Each member is expected to devote time to at least one community quilt per year – the quilts that we give to local organizations are in many ways our reason for existing – we support the Howe Sound Women’s Centre, the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation Sea to Sky Hospice, Hilltop House, Under One Roof and many other folks who need a warm hug in times of stress or sorrow.
- Most importantly take part and have fun – the human connections we build are as important as the stitches we sew – if you’ve been here a while take a new member under your wing; if you’re new here please reach out to any of us as we are truly glad to have you here as you bring a fresh perspective.
