I’ve Joined the Guild, Now What?

  1. Membership is the first step in your Quilt Guild journey – becoming a part of this group offers the opportunity to learn from others and to share your knowledge as well. We all have areas of expertise and experience – no two quilters have taken the same path to come to this point – some have quilted for many years and some are brand new, but we all have something to offer.
  2. Try new things – the Guild offers quick tutorials (at evening meetings), opportunities to talk to and learn from other members; classes and courses taught by members or others and many other ways to try something new. Maybe you are looking for a new way to bind your quilts, or a simpler way to piece a complicated block. Have you tried paper piecing, chain piecing or hand piecing? Someone in the Guild will be glad to work through a new or forgotten concept with you.
  3. Consider offering your expertise – either as a member of a committee or on a particular project. You know how to do lots of things, some of them are things we need done.
  4. Each member is expected to devote time to at least one community quilt per year – the quilts that we give to local organizations are in many ways our reason for existing – we support the Howe Sound Women’s Centre, the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation Sea to Sky Hospice, Hilltop House, Under One Roof and many other folks who need a warm hug in times of stress or sorrow.
  5. Most importantly take part and have fun – the human connections we build are as important as the stitches we sew – if you’ve been here a while take a new member under your wing; if you’re new here please reach out to any of us as we are truly glad to have you here as you bring a fresh perspective.
